Jan. 17, 2017 - North Central College distance runner Helen Majer has been selected as one of the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Women's Track and Field Athletes of the Week for Jan. 9-15. This week's selections were announced on Tuesday.

Majer was recognized as the CCIW's Track Athlete of the Week for her performance in a pair of events at the Cardinals' first meet of the 2017 indoor season, the Grand Valley State University Bob Eubanks Open, on Friday. Racing against athletes from all divisions of collegiate competition, she placed first in her heat and 10th overall in the mile run in a time of five minutes, 20.14 seconds, which currently ranks her 29th nationally among NCAA Division III athletes. She also placed seventh in the 3,000-meter run, clocking a time of 10:48.56. 

A First Team All-CCIW honoree in cross country last fall, Majer currently ranks first in the conference in both the mile and the 3,000.

North Central hosts the Cardinal Opener on Friday at Al B. Carius Track. Competition is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m.
