Jan. 21, 2017- The North Central College men's volleyball team recorded their first win of the 2017 season Saturday going 3-0 against Johnson & Wales University (JWU) at the Wildcat Center in Providence, R.I.

The Cardinals were eager on the attack in the start of the match going on a three point run due to a kill from Anthony Kluzak and a service ace from Justin Curtis. JWU was quick to return the points and the set remained within two points. The Cardinals found their momentum with a kill from Jake Braceros from Raymond Kraus bringing them up three points. From there, the Cardinals held the lead and won the set 25-21.

The second set began with the score remaining within a one point difference in favor of each team. After going down, a service ace from Braceros sparked a 5-2 run for the Cardinals and a tied set. The set continued point-for-point but a service error followed by two attacking errors from JWU gave North Central the win.

In the final set, North Central proved to be the dominant team starting the set with a 7-1 run. Though, the wildcats were not going to give up and made a comeback tying the game at 10. The Cardinals responded with three consecutive points and maintained the lead for the remainder of the set. The deficit proved to be too large for JWU with North Central ending the game.

The Cardinals maintained a hitting percentage over .240 throughout the match. Freshman outside hitter Nick Lilley had a game high of 11 kills. Meanwhile Kraus had 16 assists and freshman setter Michael Trunzo recorded 17 assists.

North Central travels to Boston, Massachusetts to face Emmanuel College on Sunday, Jan. 22 at 12 p.m. (ET).
