Box Score
Oct. 18, 2017 – A game that seemed to be within reach in the first half took a turn for the worst as the North Central College women's soccer team suffered a 4-0 loss at home to the Carroll University Pioneers on Wednesday evening.
The Pioneers thought they had gotten ahead early in the game with a shot by Kasi Pagach and a scuffle in front of the goal. The ball bounced dangerously close to the face of the goal, but
Gretchen Frantz was able to get her hands on it before it crossed the goal line.
Carroll was determined, firing three more shots at Frantz and the defense in the following three minutes. In the sixth minute, Sabrina Georgeff found Jensen Meyer open in front of the net to score a goal and give the Pioneers the early lead.
Looking to counter the attack, the Cardinals' offense tried to get something going and get on the board. Looking to its power shooters, the team hoped
Catherine Kent,
Lexi Dimovski, and
Allyson Viederis could find the back of the net, but the Pioneer defense and goalkeeper Christina O'Block thwarted any attempt, sending Carroll into halftime with a 1-0 lead.
The second half did not prove much better for the Cardinals as Jensen scored her second goal of the evening off of another assist from Georgeff to put the Pioneers up 2-0 in the 49th minute. The Cardinals continued to try and find an opening in the Pioneer defense, but could not connect on five shots from
Meagan Brakob,
Nicole Novak, Kent and Dimovski.
As time went on, things did not improve for North Central after Carroll scored a goal from Delaney Pruitt in the 74th minute, followed in quick succession 15 seconds later by another goal by Rachel Van Sluys to make the final score 4-0 in favor of the Pioneers.
North Central outshot Carroll 17-12, but the Pioneers had the upper hand defensively with eight saves. Kent led all shooters with five shots, followed by Viederis with four and Dimovski with three. Frantz recorded five saves.
The Cardinals (7-6-1, 3-2 CCIW) travel just down the road to Wheaton College on Saturday, Oct. 21. Game time is set for 4:30 p.m. and a link to live in-game coverage can be found
