Nov. 9, 2017 (KENOSHA, Wis.)- The North Central College men's and women's swimming and diving team, fell short at the Carthage College Triangular against Carthage College of Kenosha, Wisconsin and Carroll University of Waukesha, Wisconsin finishing in second and third respectively.
The men's swimming team struggled to come out on top throughout the meet; however, four events showcased some success for the Cardinals.
The men's 200-yard medley relay team made up with
Austin Blaser,
Ryan Lewellyan,
Nick Mielke, and
Ian Greenway placed second and finished with its best time of the season thus far 1.46.43.
Individually North Central found itself successful in a couple of events such as the 1,000-yard freestyle and the 100-yard breaststroke.
With a time of 11:35.88,
Cameron Teel earned a third-place finish in the 1,000-yard freestyle.
Mielke swam strong in his 100-yard breaststroke heat finishing with a time of 1:03.52, which was three seconds faster than the next swimmer earning him a first-place finish.
The men's accomplishments, unfortunately, ended with the men's 200-yard freestyle relay, with the team of Blaser, Teel, Mielke and
Luke Gentile. With a second-place finish and a time of 1:37.58. Blaser Teel, Mielke and Gentile bested its last meets 200-yard freestyle relay time by about three seconds.
With improvements, still being made the men's team found itself in second place out of three schools.
The women's swimming team much like the men's team were slow out of the gates and only earned top three spots in five events.
Opening the meet the team of
Danai Stylianou,
Katherine Canfield,
Amy Feltz and
Beth Ryan swam to a second-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay with the time of 1:57.27.
Similarly, the women performed well in a couple of events individually, which included a third-place win by Ryan in the 50-yard Freestyle with a time of 25.78. Ryan's time was just .02 seconds away from earning a second-place finish.
Stylianou swam just two seconds slower than the first-place winner in the 200-yard Individual Medley with a time of 2:22.13, earning her a closely contested second-place finish.
Rounding out the individual wins for the evening Canfield swam the 100-yard Backstroke in 1:00.76 warranting a second-place finish.
The final top three finish by North Central came with a second-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay. The team made up of Feltz, Stylianou, Ryan and Sam Kruzel swam a 1:46.16.
Though the Cardinals fell short in the Carthage and Carroll double-dual, progression and teamwork amongst the new members and the returners are visible.
The North Central College men's and women's swimming and diving team will be traveling to swim in another double-dual meet against host Ripon College of Ripon, Wisconsin and Beloit College of Beloit, Wisconsin on Saturday, November 11. Meet time is set for 1 PM.
