Dec. 9, 2017 – The North Central College women's basketball team fell behind early and never recovered against a tough Illinois Wesleyan University opponent, falling 94-47 on Saturday inside Gregory Arena.
Illinois Wesleyan (7-2, 3-0 CCIW) jumped out to a 9-2 lead to begin the contest, but North Central (1-6, 1-2 CCIW) responded with 7-0 run as
Siarra O'Neil knocked down a jumper, followed by a layup from
Maya Walls and a three-pointer off the hand of
Hannah Vitkus to knot the score 9-9.
The Titans closed the quarter on a 10-4 run to take a 19-13 lead after the opening quarter and carried that momentum into the second. After
Lyndsay Brennan hit a jumper to cut the lead to four, Illinois Wesleyan went on a 22-5 run, quickly opening up a 41-20 advantage with 2:05 to play before halftime.
Illinois Wesleyan took a 24-point lead into halftime, before
Natali Dimitrova began the third quarter with a layup on the Cardinals' opening possession. It would be almost six minutes until North Central's next basket however, while the Titans opened up a 66-24 advantage in the process.
North Central trailed by as many as 50 in the fourth quarter, finishing the contest shooting under 30 percent from the field, while the Titans shot 56 percent on 40-of-72 shooting from the field and assisted on 26 of those field goals.
Brennan and
Page Desenberg were the Cardinals' leading scorers with seven points each, while Brennan also led the team with seven rebounds.
Four Titans finished in double-figures, led by 16 points from each of Maddie Merritt and Ashley Schneider, while Molly McGraw finished with 13 and Raven Hughes added 10.
