Feb. 21, 2017 - North Central College women's track and field athlete
Kayla Etherton has been selected as one of the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Women's Track and Field Athletes of the Week for Feb. 13-19. This week's selections were announced on Tuesday.
Etherton was named the CCIW's Field Athlete of the Week for her efforts in North Central's Cardinal Classic at Al B. Carius Track on Friday. She won the 20-pound weight throw, breaking her own indoor school record with a distance of 56 feet, 6 inches, while also placing second in the shot put with a career-best mark of 41'5" which ranks her third on the Cardinals' indoor all-time list.
Etherton currently ranks second in the CCIW and 15th nationally among all NCAA Division III competitors in the weight throw while ranking fourth in the shot put ahead of this weekend's CCIW Indoor Championships. She is one of two North Central athletes to be recognized with one of the CCIW's weekly awards this season, as distance runner
Helen Majer was selected as the Track Athlete of the Week on Jan. 17.
The CCIW Indoor Championships will be held at Illinois Wesleyan University's Shirk Center in Bloomington on Friday and Saturday. Competition is scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m. Friday and 10:45 a.m. Saturday.
