GREENSBORO, N.C. (Mar. 19, 2017)- A late start offensively, the North Central College men's lacrosse team fought back against the Greensboro College Pride to tie the game and win the program's first ever double overtime contest improving to a record of 5-0, Sunday afternoon at Pride Field.

With the game tied at 7 the Cardinals entered their first 4-minute golden goal opportunity. The Cardinals fired off no shots in the first overtime but held the Pride at seven with one save made by freshman Ross Hixson. In the second overtime, North Central freshman Jared Weaver took a shot, with 2 minute and 11 seconds left, that went straight to the back of the net and secured North Central's fifth straight win.

The Cardinals opened the game with a slow start falling to deficit of three to the Pride and trailing for the first time in program history. North Central found a light when sophomore Tanner James scored the Cardinal's first goal of the game off a feed from freshman Tommy Huizinga with less than 5 minutes left in the quarter. A successful groundball from freshman Ethan Hurst, in the second quarter, granted North Central their second goal with the same combination players, this time Huizinga with the goal from James.

The Cardinals ended the first half of the game down 3-2. Upon resuming play, North Central found an offensive edge when James scored his second goal off another Huizinga feed, a minute and a half into the third quarter to tie the game. The Pride gained two go-ahead goals before freshman Danny Boyle scored his first goal of the game. Huizinga notched his second goal of the game a minute later after scooping up a ground ball and racing towards the net. The Cardinals gained the lead for the first time in the competition when freshman Noah Parrill connected with Huizinga to end the third quarter.

Greensboro scored an equalizer early in the fourth quarter however a successful clear attempt for North Central and a groundball accompanied with a shot at the hands of Weaver, found the Cardinals their seventh goal. North Central held off Greensboro for nine minutes before the Pride took a timeout. When the clock began again, Greensboro jumped on the attack and scored a second equalizer. North Central took one more shot before regulation time ran out but it was saved by Greensboro, therefore the Cardinals entered their first overtime period in program history.

Huizinga led the team in goals with three while James and Weaver scored two and Boyle connected with one goal, and four groundballs. Freshmen Chris Ivie and John Fitzgerald drove the team defensively each with three caused turnovers.

The Cardinals head back to the field this Tuesday, Mar. 21, in West Virginia as they face off against the Bethany College Bison at 5 p.m. (ET).
