Naperville, Ill. (April. 15, 2017) – Led by a balanced attack and in a game where there were several major contributors, the North Central College women's lacrosse team showed their depth and maintained a perfect College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) record by defeating Carroll University 17-2 on Saturday afternoon, at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium.
Freshman
Nelle Scranton made her presence felt early, scoring two goals within the first five minutes of the contest. Her initial goal, coming with 28:15 on the clock, came courtesy of an assist from junior
Emily Zadny. Freshman
Jessica Deetjen would give the Cardinals the 3-0 advantage with 24:08 left to play, but the Cardinals' hot start was temporarily halted as the Pioneers scored their first goal with 22:45 left in the half.
Not deterred by the minor setback, North Central responded by going on a 9-0 to close out the half, with seniors
Nikki Merriss,
Madison Maas and
Kassie Whaling all scoring, along with Zadny and Deetjen. The barrage of goals gave the Cardinals a 12-1 lead going into halftime.
Coming out of the half Carroll struck the first blow, scoring with 28:29 remaining. However, the Pioneer's defenders struggled to contain Scranton as she scored her third goal of the game with 23:29 left on the clock. Zadny then scored a pair of goals, the first coming at 16:45 from a Whaling assist, then at 15:47 as she was the beneficiary of an assist from freshman
Christina Truver.
With 14:26 Zadny found Whaling in scoring position, while Maas scored North Central's final goal of the contest with 11:03 on the clock, coming from a Truver assist.

Mynk Richardson-Clerk, each finishing with four. Truver obtained four draw controls and Deetjen had three, leading the Cardinals in that category.
Senior
Anicia Mattingly and Deetjen both recorded three caused turnovers to lead the Cardinals, while freshmen
Madeline McHugh,
Rebecca Claussen, Richardson-Clerk and Truver each had two.
Both goalkeepers were spectacular, as they denied Carroll multiple scoring opportunities. Senior
