ROCK ISLAND, Ill. (May 6, 2017) – A second straight hammer throw title from senior Kayla Etherton headlined the North Central College women's track and field team's weekend at the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Outdoor Championships, as the Cardinals posted a fifth-place finish at Augustana College.
North Central scored 89 1/3 points in the meet. Wheaton College won the team competition with 205, followed by Carthage College (144 1/3) ,Illinois Wesleyan University (109) and Augustana (107 1/3).
Etherton turned in a mark of 172 feet, one inch to give the Cardinals their fifth straight hammer throw championship, while Naomi Yamane recorded a personal-best distance of 165'1" to finish fourth. Etherton also added a third-place showing in the javelin throw (111'4") and placed eighth in the shot put (39'11 1/2"), notching personal-best marks in both events.
North Central got second-place points from Tori Capozziello in the 1,500-meter run (4:43.15) and Allison Hartman in the 800-meter run (2:17.34), and Capozziello also placed fourth in the 800 (2:18.02). The pair teamed with Ashley Buado and Bethany Bachmann to finish fourth in the 4-by-400-meter relay (4:00.60) as well.
Helen Majer was timed in 18:35.97 to place third in the 5,000-meter run, and other fourth-place finishes came from Trent in the 1,500-meter run (4:50.15), Hailey Dammeier in the heptathlon (3,679 points) and Veronica Ramming in the high jump (5'1 3/4"). Courtney Meyer finished fifth in the pole vault (11'6 1/4"), as did Lexi Wilkinson in the triple jump (36'4").
The Cardinals will host the Dr. Keeler Invitational at Jay and Dot Buikema Track Thursday and Friday.
