May 9, 2017 – For the third time this season a North Central College baseball player has earned College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Player of the Week honors, as
Michael Mateja was named Hitter of the Week for the week of May 2-8.
Mateja hit .467 (14-for-30) over the week to lead the Cardinals to a 6-1 record and the third-straight College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) regular season title. Mateja finished the week with five doubles, two homeruns, 10 runs scored, eight RBI and four stolen bases while slugging .833.
Mataja currently leads the team in nearly every offensive category, batting .406 with a team-leading 58 hits, 46 runs scored, six triples, 94 total bases, 18 walks and 20 steals to go along with a .657 slugging percentage and .489 on-base percentage.
Also receiving Hitter of the Week this season for North Central was
Nick Sotiros on Apr. 4, while
Evan Blunk was named Pitcher of the Week on Apr. 25.
North Central will host Illinois Wesleyan University in the opening game of the 2017 CCIW Tournament with first pitch scheduled for 12 p.m. at Zimmerman Stadium, with Augustana College taking on Wheaton College following 30 minutes after the completion of game one.
