Jan. 13, 2018 – The North Central College women's basketball team fell behind early and never recovered against defending College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) champion Wheaton College on Saturday, falling 72-55 inside Gregory Arena.
Wheaton (11-4, 5-2 CCIW) scored the game's first three field goals and never surrendered the lead the remainder of the game. North Central (4-11, 2-4 CCIW) battled back to tie the game 8-8, highlighted by three-pointers from
Natali Dimitrova and
Hannah Vitkus, but a 8-0 Thunder run immediately after ballooned the lead back to eight.
Both teams struggled mightily from the field in the second quarter as both teams were only able to muster two field goals each, neither team taking advantage of each other's shooting mishaps, as Wheaton took a 28-20 lead into the intermission.
North Central's poor shooting carried over into the third quarter, mustering just three field goals, while Wheaton rattled off a 21-5 run, quickly taking a 49-25 advantage and led by double-digits the rest of the contest.
Lyndsay Brennan finished with 10 points and eight rebounds to lead the Cardinals, while
Mayson Whipple added nine points and four assists, becoming just the fourth player in program history to eclipse 300 career assists.
Hannah Frazier paced the Thunder offense with 15 points, while Maggie Dansdill added 12 and Jennifer Berg grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds.
