WAUKESHA, Wis. (Jan. 6, 2018) – Re-starting College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) play on Saturday at Carroll University, the North Central College women's basketball team overcame a double-digit first quarter deficit but was unable to sneak past the Pioneers, falling 52-43 inside Van Male Fieldhouse.
North Central (3-10, 1-3 CCIW) got off to a rough start in the opening quarter, as the Pioneers (5-8, 2-2 CCIW) closed the opening frame with a 12-0 run to take a 25-12 advantage.
Trailing by 11 at the intermission, the Cardinals slowly chipped away at the Carroll lead in the third quarter and finally overtook the lead on a
Maya Walls three-pointer with 5:49 to play in the contest to give North Central a 43-42 lead.
That proved to be all the scoring the Cardinals would muster however, finishing the contest 0-for-11 from the field, while Carroll closed the game on a 10-0 run and hang on to the victory.
Mayson Whipple was the Cardinals' leading scorer with eight points, while
Hannah Vitkus added seven. Walls and
Natali Dimitrova tied for the team lead with seven rebounds, while Whipple grabbed four steals on defense.
Carroll's Katie Rossetti led all scorers with 17 points and 16 rebounds, while Brittney Wald added 11 points and Delaney Sjong finished with 14 boards.
