BELOIT, Wis. (Nov. 10, 2018) - Facing stiff competition from two worthy adversaries, the North Central men's swimming & diving team turned in several strong performances at their double dual Saturday, despite falling short in the team scores.
The Cardinals' top finish came from freshman
Ferdinand Hoerstel, who took first in the 200-yard individual medley (2:13.02) in his first time competing in that event. Ferdinand teamed up with
Ryan Lewellyan,
Austin Blaser and
Nick Mielke in the 200-yard medley relay to finish third with a time of 1:46.31. After anchoring that relay, Mielke excelled in the individual events, securing a second-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke (1:07.62) and a third-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly (59.20), the latter setting a new personal best.
The 50-yard freestyle proved to be a bright spot on the day for the Cardinals, with Blaser placing third (23.66),
Sarantis Stamatis placing sixth (25.26), Gentile placing seventh (25.76) and
Gage Eisenbeis taking eighth (27.02). The North Central relay of Blaser, Mielke, Lewellyan and Ferdinand took second in the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:34.48) to close out the day.
