Feb. 1, 2018 – Wrestling in front of a roaring home crowd and paying homage to its senior class, the North Central College wrestling team battled through a tough match to come away with a 26-15 win over Millikin University on Thursday evening.
Moe Mitchell earned the Cardinals an early three-point lead at 125 pounds after defeating the Big Blue's Brandon Muselman in a 5-4 decision. Senior
Michael Bikulcius followed at 133 with another win by decision over Angel Rios, Jr. to put North Central ahead 6-0.
Anthony Rink took the mat for the 141 match against No. 7 Chris Williams. Despite a valiant effort, Williams pinned Rink at 4:29 to quickly tie the match and set the stage for a competitive evening.
North Central answered back with a 9-6 win by decision from
Ben Williamson at 149 and a win by fall for
Egan Berta at 157 over Noah Justi and regained the lead, 15-6. Millikin would quickly close the gap, 15-9, after Blake Tisza defeated
Danny Harris by a 9-3 decision at 165 pounds.
At 174, senior
Matt Marcotte came away with a dominant 11-2 win by major decision over Jake Tisza to make the score 19-9. That score would quickly be cut within four after Keajion Jennings won the 184 match by medical forfeit.
The Cardinals would need some big points at 197 pounds and knew just the man to make it happen.
Tyler Vittal took to the mat and showed why he is the No. 8 wrestler in the nation at 197 pounds, defeating Isaiah Herrera by a 12-3 major decision and sealing the win for North Central.
Senior
Emonte Logan, knowing his team had won, came into the 285 match with energy and defeated Diata Drayton in an 8-5 decision to put the exclamation point on a 26-15 win.
