KENOSHA, Wis. (Feb. 25, 2018) - Taking part in a fiercely-competitive College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Indoor Championship Friday and Saturday, the North Central College women's track and field team used a first-place finish and five second-place showings to propel itself to a second-place finish in the nine-team field at Carthage College.
The Cardinals totaled 119.50 points in the standings, finishing only behind Wheaton College's score of 159. Carthage placed third with 104.50, followed by Illinois Wesleyan University (94), Augustana College (85), Millikin University (69), Carroll University (23), Elmhurst College (5) and North Park University (4).
North Central claimed the conference title in the distance medley relay for the third straight year on Friday, as
Alexis Henz,
Ashley Buado,
Kyle Draghi and
Dianne Barajas finished in 12 minutes, 29.87 seconds. The quartet finished nearly 12 seconds ahead of its closest pursuer. Barajas and Henz also placed fourth (5:17.24) and fifth (5:18.77), respectively, in the mile run, while Buado finished fifth in the 400-meter dash (1:00.92).
The Cardinals'
Madelyn Scopp came in second in both the mile (5:12.97) and the 3,000-meter run (10:19.89, sixth-fastest in school history indoors), and also finished third in the 5,000-meter run (18:02.70).
Milia Harris turned in a time of 8.38 seconds, the fourth-fastest in North Central history, to place second in the 55-meter hurdles, while second-place points also came from
Kelsey McLaurin in the triple jump (37 feet, eight inches) and
Allison Hartman in the 800-meter run (2:18.40).
Buado and Hartman teamed with
Anna Baltudis and
Jenna Yakesh to finish fourth in the 4-by-400-meter relay (4:07.22), and
Veronica Ramming placed fourth in the high jump as well (5'1"). Also securing fifth-place finishes were McLaurin in the 55- (7.43) and 200-meter dashes (26.22), Yakesh in the 800 (2:23.08),
Allyson McLaughlin in the 5,000 (18:21.00) and
Naomi Yamane in the shot put (41'8.50").
The Cardinals will compete in the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point Final Qualifier on Saturday.
