D3baseball.com Team of the Week

Feb. 27, 2018 – North Central College freshman catcher Rob Marinec was named College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Player of the Week, while also earning a spot on the D3baseball.com Team of the Week after leading the Cardinals to a pair of wins over MacMurray College to begin the 2018 season, hitting a three-run homerun in each game.

Marinec is off to a tremendous start to his career in a Cardinal uniform, finishing 2-for-4 with four RBI and a run scored in North Central's 8-5 win in the season opener.  Marinec launched a three-run bomb through the teeth of the wind in the bottom of the seventh and added a RBI-single in the bottom of the eighth as part of a seven-run comeback over the final two innings.

The following afternoon, Marinec once again finished 2-for-4 from the plate, this time driving in five runs while scoring twice.  He connected on his second three-run homerun in as many days in the bottom of the fourth, the second Cardinal homerun of the inning and third of the game in the 12-8 win over the Highlanders on Sunday, while driving in two more with a double to the fence in right center in the bottom of the first.

Marinec currently leads the team with nine RBI over the first two games of the season, while hitting at a .500 clip and slugging 1.375.

North Central is off until its annual Spring Break strip, beginning on Thursday, Mar. 15, taking on Susquehanna University at 4 pm (ET) in Port Charlotte, Fla. at North Charlotte Regional Park #9.
