Cardinals' Win Streak Halted in Colorado

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Mar. 21, 2018) - A 20-minute scoring drought wound up being too much to overcome for the North Central College women's lacrosse team on Wednesday, as the Cardinals saw their season-opening winning streak disrupted despite a spirited late rally in a 21-13 loss to Colorado College.

North Central (6-1) played the Tigers, who advanced to the round of 16 in the NCAA Division III Championship last season, to a 6-6 standstill midway through the first half before Colorado turned up the defensive pressure and scored nine straight goals while allowing the Cardinals just three shot attempts across the final 12 minutes of the first half and the first eight minutes of the second.

Trailing by a 20-8 count late in the contest, North Central rallied and put away five unanswered goals in the final 6:30 to narrow the gap before running out of time. The Cardinals did see a single-game school record shattered, as Christina Truver's 13 draw controls in the contest broke the previous North Central record of 10.

Jessica Deetjen paced the Cardinals' scoring efforts with four goals, while Truver and Addie Records each scored three. Records also tallied two assists, while Grace Steiner and Mynk Richardson-Clerk shared the team lead with three ground balls each. Camille Seghesio got the start in goal and saved 10 shots.

Isabelle Patalino scored four times for the Tigers (8-3), while Eva King finished with three goals and four assists.

North Central returns home to host Albion College (Michigan) on Sunday at noon.
