D3baseball.com Team of the Week

Mar. 27, 2018 – For the second time this season, a North Central College baseball player has earned College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Player of the Week and a spot on the D3baseball.com Team of the Week, as Michael Mateja earned the distinction after hitting .647 last week.

This marks the second such award from D3baseball.com in as many years for Mateja and the second this season for North Central, as freshman catcher Rob Marinec was named to the team of the week on Feb. 27, while receiving CCIW Player of the Week as well. 

Mateja led the 23^rd-ranked Cardinals to a pair of wins last week, as four of his 11 hits went for extra bases, including three doubles and a homerun, while extending his reached-base streak to 53 games dating back to Mar. 20, 2017.  Mateja also scored eight runs while driving in eight more in North Central's four games last week.

Mateja is leading the team in nearly every offensive category so far this season, batting .444, slugging .806 and reaching base at a .500 clip, while also leading the team with 16 hits, 11 runs scored, two triples, 29 total bases and three stolen bases.

North Central begins College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) play on Wednesday, Mar. 28, playing host to Wheaton College with game one of the doubleheader slated for 12 p.m.  Links to live in-game coverage are available HERE.
