April 21, 2018- The North Central College softball team took to Shanower Family Field for the third time this week, sweeping Mount Mary University in subsequent, five-inning shut outs, beating the Blue Angels 8-0 and again 12-0 on Saturday afternoon.
The Cardinals had a slow start in the first game, recording only two hits and one run by the bottom of the third.
Riding a one-run lead, a stellar pitching performance by Jessica Weaver coupled with the efficient fielding of Rachele Belletini and Samantha Phelps led to Weaver recording the first no-hitter of her career.
North Central would continue to dominate at bat, opening the game wide open in the bottom of the fifth. The Cardinals were ignited by back-to-back doubles by Emily Miller and Jenna Trojniar, leading to recording seven runs and batting around to end the game 8-0 in just five innings.
In game two of the doubleheader, a single to center field by Reagan Raymer would set up North Central to record two runs off a pair of doubles from Alexandra Martin and Lisa Harrington, giving North Central an early 2-0.
Similar to game one, North Central's infield and outfield were entirely in sync with each other allowing just two hits throughout the whole game.
Though the two hits hindered Samantha Gadomski from tallying a no-hitter of her own, Gadomski did tie the season high for most strikeouts in a game with nine.
Gadomski's pitching would not be the only season high the Cardinals would break in game two. While scoring the remaining ten runs of the game in the third and fourth innings, North Central recorded a total of seven doubles while batting around yet again in the bottom of the third.
The 10-run rally began with a two-run homer by Taylor Clugston, after Trojniar recorded her second double of the game and third for the series.
With a 12-0 lead in the top of the fifth Gadomski would end the game with an impressive strikeout leaving a lasting impression on Mount Mary.
