BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (Apr. 25, 2018) - The North Central College women's lacrosse team was upended in its bid for a ninth straight victory on Wednesday, as the Cardinals lost by a 14-4 count at Illinois Wesleyan University.
The Cardinals (14-2, 4-1 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin) fell behind, 6-0, after 10 minutes of play and were forced to play catch-up all evening long. North Central had a tough time penetrating the Titan defense and faced a 36-13 deficit in shots attempted.
The visitors got on the board for the first time with 17:26 on the clock in the first half, as
Jessica Deetjen charged through the middle of the critical scoring area for the Cardinals' first goal. Deetjen scored again with 11:57 before halftime on a free-position shot.
Madeline McHugh scored North Central's final two goals midway through the second half, sweeping in front of the goal from the left side on both occasions.
Rebecca Claussen and
Mynk Richardson-Clerk shared the team lead with four ground balls each, while goalkeeper
Camille Seghesio saved 12 shots.
North Central closes out the regular season on Saturday, traveling to face Carroll University (13-2, 3-2). Competition at Schneider Stadium is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
