BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (April 4, 2018) – The North Central College men's lacrosse team battled against a tough competitor to begin College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) play on Wednesday, ultimately suffering a 28-9 loss against defending conference champions and Division III National Championship qualifiers, Illinois Wesleyan University (7-3, 2-0 CCIW).
The Titans took command of the game in the first period, scoring seven unanswered goals and limiting North Central to only six shot attempts. The Cardinals capitalized in the second period on a man-up possession when
Tommy Huizinga slid the ball past Titan goalkeeper McGuire Mynatt at the 11:11 mark, putting North Central on the board.
Huizinga's goal sparked the Cardinals' offense as
Noah Parrill scored six minutes later to give North Central two goals, but the Titans responded with a goal from David O'Neil to stay ahead, 11-2. Thirty-seconds after Illinois Wesleyan scored, Huizinga lent a helping hand to
Nick Pardo less than a minute later to give the Cardinals three goals, although the Titans would go into the locker room with a 16-3 lead.
Illinois Wesleyan scored quickly to start the second half, but North Central was ready to make up ground in the third period.
Tanner James scored at 13:20, followed by another man-up goal, this time from Pardo off of an assist from
Gavin Foote a minute later, but the Titans would score ten goals in the final period to take a lead that was simply too much for North Central to counter.
Parrill, Huizinga, and James shared the lead with two goals apiece while five Cardinals contributed assists. In goal, Cost tallied 17 saves in addition to his team-high five ground balls.
