ROCK ISLAND, Ill. (April 7, 2018) – The North Central College men's lacrosse team had a lot of ground to make up after falling behind early on Saturday against College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) challenger Augustana College (7-4, 2-0 CCIW), but the late effort in the fourth period was not enough to pull away with the win as the Cardinals fell 6-5 in overtime to the Vikings.

Both team's defensive efforts kept the other scoreless in the first period, but the Vikings were able to pull ahead with a 2-0 lead going into halftime. Augustana would score its third goal halfway through the third period, but North Central was not going to go another 15 minutes scoreless as Jacob Ray connected with Nick Pardo to find the back of the net with one second on the clock to close out the third period.

Trailing 5-1 to start the final period, the Cardinals turned it up a notch, as Jared Weaver, Noah Parrill, Danny Boyle, and Pardo once again scored four goals in four minutes to tie the game 5-5 and force overtime for the first time this season.

The Vikings won the opening faceoff in the four-minute overtime period, but a huge save from Dylan Cost on a quick shot from Augustana's Nick Gallo kept North Central in the game a bit longer. Despite the Cardinals' best efforts, the Vikings capitalized on a successful clear and shot from Nick Zielinski, winning a close 6-5 conference battle.

Pardo's two goals were a team-high while Steven Faux and Cost shared the lead with four ground balls each. Sean Tomonari and Chris Ivie added two caused turnovers apiece as well. In between th pipes, Cost came away with 12 huge saves.

North Central (4-8, 0-2 CCIW) play Carroll University on Wednesday, Apr. 11 at 6 p.m. A link to live in-game coverage can be found HERE.
