May 1, 2018 – Sweeping the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Player of the Week awards, North Central College's
Mike Wisz and
Russell Hoh were named hitter and pitcher of the week, respectively, on Tuesday in the weekly award handed out by the conference.
Wisz paced the Cardinal offense to a 5-1 record last week, batting .435 with 16 RBI, 10 hits and three doubles. Wisz currently leads the CCIW in RBI with 53 on the season and ranks ninth on North Central's single-season list.
Hoh tossed 7 2/3 innings allowing just one run in North Central's 3-1 win in game one of the doubleheader sweep of Augustana College on Apr. 25. Hoh is now 4-0 over his four CCIW starts with two complete-game shutouts, posting a miniscule 0.98 ERA, striking out 20 batters while walking just three over 27 2/3 innings pitched.
This marks the second straight CCIW Pitcher of the Week award for the Cardinals, as
Charlie Klemm earned the distinction on Apr. 24. Wisz's Hitter of the Week honor is the third this season for North Central, as
Rob Marinec and
Michael Mateja were each honored earlier this season.
North Central (22-9, 17-2 CCIW) currently holds a 2.5 game lead in the conference standings, finishing up the season series at Illinois Wesleyan University this afternoon. The two teams will complete game two of the twin bill from Apr. 10, resuming play in the top of the 7
