2018 Google Cloud Academic All-District Baseball Teams

May 10, 2018 - North Central College baseball student-athlete Michael Mateja is among 90 NCAA Division III players nationwide to be voted to this year's Google Cloud Academic All-District Teams, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), in recognition of combined academic and athletic excellence.

To be eligible for nomination, student-athletes must carry a minimum grade-point average of 3.3 and have achieved at least sophomore academic and athletic standing. All-District selections were voted upon by CoSIDA's membership, which consists of sports information and athletics communication professionals at collegiate institutions throughout the United States and Canada.

Mateja, who was named the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Player of the Year in addition to First Team All-America recognition by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) and D3baseball.com a season ago, currently leads the Cardinals with a .435 batting average while leading the entire CCIW in slugging percentage (.710), on-base percentage (.528), runs scored (47), doubles (18) and triples (4). The accounting major set a new North Central career record for sacrifice flies (12) earlier this season and currently ranks third in the Cardinals' history in career runs scored (148) and stolen bases (51) while sitting fourth in hits (196) and total bases (282).

Mateja's All-District selection is the 47th achieved by a North Central student-athlete and the first for the baseball program since Dave Elliott in 1992. Mateja is eligible for selection to CoSIDA's Google Cloud Academic All-America Team, which will be announced in June.

Winners of their fourth straight CCIW championship this season, the Cardinals (25-12) host the CCIW Tournament at Zimmerman Stadium this weekend.
