WAUKESHA, Wis. (Sept. 18, 2018) – Continuing their hot start to the season, the North Central College women's tennis team claimed its fourth-straight College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) opponent on Tuesday in Carroll University, coming away with a 8-1 win at the Jean Kilgour-Trailblazer Tennis Complex to improve to 6-1 on the season.
Starting the afternoon with doubles play, the Cardinal combination of
Diana Barcelata and
Morgan House were no match for Lora Leach and Allison Krusa, cruising to a 8-0 win at the No. 2 position.
At No. 1,
Hannah Hougland and
Alaina Kanthaphixay took care of Grace Krueger and Shanna Mogden, 8-2, while
Katie McGraw and
Tiffany Smolik gave the Cardinals a 3-0 cushion in the match with a 8-4 victory over Shanna Klenk and Jenna Boeck at the No. 3 spot.
Kanthaphixay then got the scoring started in singles play with a quick 6-2, 6-1 defeat of Leach at No. 3, while Smolik scored a 6-1, 6-2 win over Klenk at No. 6 to seal the match win for North Central.
At the No. 5 position, McGraw took down Vanessa Ignatew, 6-1, 6-0, while Barcelata fought back from a 6-4 first set defeat, rebounding to score a 6-3, 10-4 victory at No. 1 over Krueger. Hougland capped the scoring for the Cardinals, scoring a 6-3, 6-1 win over Mogden at No. 2.
North Central (6-1, 4-1 CCIW) will send a handful of players to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Central Region Championships beginning on Thursday, Sept. 20, held at Stowe Stadium on the campus of Kalamazoo College (Michigan).
