DECATUR, Ill. (Sept. 7, 2018) – Scoring their first College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) win of the season, the North Central College women's tennis team took down the Big Blue, 7-2 on Friday afternoon at Fairview Park Tennis Complex.

North Central (3-1) built themselves a nice 3-0 lead after doubles play, as Tiffany Smolik and Katie Legorreta made quick work of Alena Hinch and Katie Cooper, 8-2 at the No. 3 position.  Hannah Hougland and Alaina Kanthaphixay then followed with an identical 8-2 win over Morgan Bettner and Shelby Jones at No. 1, while Diana Barcelata and Katie McGraw made it a clean sweep with a 8-5 victory over Danielle Beard and Madeline Delano at No. 2.

In singles play, Hougland shut out Jones in straight 6-0 sets at the No. 2 position, before Barcelata sealed the match victory for North Central with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Bettner at No. 1.

Kanthaphixay increased the lead 6-0 with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Beard at the No. 3 spot, while Smolik closed out the victories with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Hinch at No. 5.

North Central has a quick turnaround with their third CCIW match in the last four days, traveling to Illinois Wesleyan University with matches beginning at an early 9 a.m. start at the Beadles-Morse Tennis Courts.
