BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (Sept. 8, 2018) -- Playing their second College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) match in as many days, the North Central College women's tennis team scored a 8-1 win over Illinois Wesleyan University on Saturday, in a match moved indoors to Evergreen Racquet Club.
Beginning the day with doubles play,
Hannah Hougland and
Alaina Kanthaphixay breezed past Anna Cooper and Rebecca Rochacz, 8-1 at the No. 1 position. At No. 2,
Diana Barcelata and
Katie McGraw rolled through Sam Robinson and Sofia Pinheiro, 8-2, while
Tiffany Smolik and
Katie Legorreta fought off Ashley Mohr and Kayleigh Ruffolo, 8-5 at the No. 3 position.
Taking a 3-0 lead into singles play, Kanthaphixay quickly took down Rochacz in straight 6-0 sets at No. 3, while Hougland clinched the match victory for North Central with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Cooper at the No. 2 position.
McGraw then defeated Mohr, 6-2, 6-1 at No. 4, while Barcelata was victorious by a 6-1, 6-3 score at No. 1 over Pinheiro before Legorreta closed out the match in straight 6-1 sets over Autumn See at No. 6.
North Central (4-1, 2-1 CCIW) returns home on Wednesday, Sept. 12, hosting Elmhurst College with matches slated for 3 p.m. at the NCC Tennis Courts.
