Jan. 18, 2019 - Claiming first place in 12 of the 15 contested events, the North Central College women's track and field team cruised to victory in the Snow Day Dual at Al B. Carius Track on Friday, securing a 101-54 victory over the University of St. Francis.
North Central saw a school record broken in the 1,000-meter run midway through the meet, as Dianne Barajas completed five circuits around the track in three minutes, 1.70 seconds, eclipsing the previous varsity record of 3:06.16 which had stood since 2014.
Kelsey McLaurin, meanwhile, placed first in three events for the second straight week. She won the 200-meter dash in 26.37 seconds and posted a distance of 37 feet, 9.50 inches to top the field in the triple jump before winning the 4-by-400-meter relay (4:03.20) with Allison Grady, Katie Bonney and Lizzy McCadd.
Other first-place showings in running events came from Julia Babinec in the 60-meter hurdles (9.96), Claudia Valenzuela in the 60-meter dash (8.10), Anna Baltudis in the 400-meter dash (1:04.01) and Madelyn Scopp in the mile run (5:18.09). Additional victories in field events were achieved by Alexandra Draves in the shot put (36'6.75"), Zoe Steppe in the pole vault (10'4"), Keren Parra in the long jump (16'2.50") and Veronica Ramming in the high jump (5'1.75").
The Cardinals compete in the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Warhawk Classic next Saturday, with competition set to begin at 10:30 a.m.
