Jan. 22, 2019 - The North Central College women's track and field program has claimed the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Field Event Athlete of the Week award for the second straight time, as senior Naomi Yamane was recognized as the CCIW's outstanding field-event competitor for the week of Jan. 14-20 on Tuesday.
Yamane placed second in the 20-pound weight throw in Friday's Snow Day Dual at Al B. Carius Track, which the Cardinals won, 101-54, over the University of St. Francis. Yamane's mark of 51 feet, nine inches currently ranks third-best in the CCIW and 18th nationally among NCAA Division III competitors. Yamane also ranks third in the conference and 16th in the nation in the shot put with a distance of 42'0.50" recorded Jan. 11 in the Cardinal Opener.
North Central's Kelsey McLaurin won the CCIW's first Field Athlete of the Week award of the season for her efforts in the long jump, triple jump and 4-by-400-meter relay in the Cardinal Opener.
The Cardinals travel to the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater for the Warhawk Classic on Saturday. Competition at Kachel Fieldhouse is set to get under way at 10:30 a.m.
