The North Central College men's swimming & diving team capped off one of their busiest weekends of the season at Lewis University for a dual meet Saturday, where they fell 72-10, despite earning several personal bests during the competition.
The Cardinals opened the meet on a high note, as the team of
Sam Lee,
Nick Mielke,
Austin Blaser and
Ferdinand Hoerstel time of 1:44.04 in the 200-yard medley relay established a new season best and earned a second-place finish. North Central found their other second-place finish in
Cameron Teel, who finished the 500-yard freestyle in 5:43.35, just ahead of
Ryan Lewellyan in third (5:56.92).
The Cardinals had a slew of fourth-place finishes on the day, with
Nick Mielke earning a pair in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:02.40) and the 100-yard freestyle (50.67), the latter earning him a personal best. Teel added one in the 200-yard individual medley (2:20.71), as did Milan Dezelich in the 200-yard freestyle (1:57.28). The final event of the meet saw the team's 200-yard relay of Hoerstae, Mielke,
Sarantis Stamatis and Blaser finish in 1:41.95 to claim fourth-place.
North Central heads to Wheaton College on Feb. 2 for a triangular meet alongside conference-foe Augustana College, with competition set to begin at 11 a.m.
