ELMHURST, Ill. (Oct. 1, 2019) – Continuing to re-write program history, the North Central College women's tennis team improved to 6-1 in College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) play with a 9-0 shutout over Elmhurst College on Tuesday at the Brune Tennis Courts, setting a new single-season record for conference wins.
The Cardinals (8-1, 6-1 CCIW) opened doubles play with a pair of 8-1 victories as
Ellie Gallagher and
Yaitova Spiegel opened the scoring at the No. 3 position over Bailey Ekstrand and June Bering.
Hannah Hougland and
Alaina Kanthaphixay finished shortly after with an identical 8-1 win at No. 1 over Ysabel Gonzaga and Dacey Maglaque to improve to a perfect 7-0 in CCIW play, before
Katie McGraw and
Linsy Jante completed the sweep with a 8-5 defeat of Nina Pasquini and Kristina Radakovic at No. 2.
Taking that 3-0 lead into singles play, Hougland turned in a dominant 6-0, 6-0 shutout performance at No. 1, ahead of
Morgan House who clinched the match win at the No. 5 position with a 6-1, 6-3 defeat of Silvia Barak.
Following at the No. 4 and No. 2 spots, Jante and Kanthaphixay were each victorious in straight 6-2 sets, before Gallagher took down Lindsey McAuliffe, 6-2, 6-4 at the No. 6 position. Closing out the scoring at No. 3, McGraw scored an easy 6-1 win in the opening set before fighting off Ekstrand in the second, 7-5.
Taking a short break from the conference schedule, North Central travels to Milwaukee, Wisconsin on Saturday, Oct. 5 for a non-conference triangular, taking on host Milwaukee School of Engineering at 10 a.m., followed by the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point at 1 p.m. with both matches at Nicolet High School.
