WARRENVILLE, Ill. (Oct. 11, 2019) – Relying primarily on its underclassmen, the No. 1-ranked North Central College men's cross country team came away with a second-place finish at the Benedictine University Eagle Invitational, held Friday afternoon at St. James Farm.

Cameron Benes shined in just his second race of the season as he led all 92 competitors through the 8,000-meter course in a time of 26 minutes and 25.4 seconds to notch his first career top-finish. Stuart Todd-Middleditch (27:07.4) was the next Cardinal through the line in eighth, while the trio of Tim Bertulis (27:17.3), Josh Johnson (27:22.4) and Michael Conkright (27:24.4) swept the next three spots.

Matt Laws (27:41.4) and Blake Walters (27:51.6) added 16th and 17th-place finishes, repsectively, to round out North Central's top-7.

The 11th-ranked University of Chicago won the meet with 22 points, ahead of the Cardinals' 39 points. Northwestern University took third with 121 points, followed by the hosts Eagles with 142 points and Harper College (158 points) in fifth.

North Central competes in the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh Kollege Town Sports Invitational on Oct. 19 for a preview of the course that will host the Midwest Regional Championship. Race time at Lake Breeze Golf Course is set for 10:20 a.m.
