NAPERVILLE, Ill. (Oct. 19, 2019) - Competing against the No. 9 ranked team in the country, the North Central College women's soccer team put up a good fight, but fell 1-0 to the hands of Wheaton College.
The Thunder opened the game in attack mode as they posted three shots in the first five minutes of action. The Cardinals' defense stayed strong and kept Wheaton scoreless on those early attempts. In the eighth minute, Jensen Ellis put the ball into the back of the net off of a deflection from the Cardinals' defense to score the games first goal. Despite Wheaton's 15 first-half shots, the Cardinals held them to the lone goal for the entirety of the half.
North Central picked up the offense in the second-half as they had a good look on a corner kick in the 56th minute, but were unable to come away with a goal. Their best opportunity came in the 87th minute when
Allyson Viederis had a great look off of a cross, but the ball sailed just high of the net as Wheaton closed out the contest to win their 13th game of the season.
In goal,
Madison Lockard recorded nine saves as she moves to 7-7-1 on the season. The Thunder goalkeeper, Lauren Ketchum improves to 12-1-1 for the year.
The Cardinals visit Elmhurst on Wednesday as they look for their fourth College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) win of the year. The game will be played at Langhorst Field and is set to begin at 7:00pm.
