ELMHURST, Ill. (Oct. 23, 2019) - With every game carrying College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) tournament implications from here out, the North Central College women's soccer team came to play against Elmhurst College on Wednesday, with a pair of goals from
Aly Crum proving to be the deciding factor in their 2-1 victory.
An evenly-matched contest through the first 45 minutes, the score remained 0-0 at half with neither team giving an inch. Even though the score was a stalemate, the Blue Jays (8-5-2, 2-3-1 CCIW) held the slight advantage in shots (6-5) and shots on goal (6-3).
The Blue Jays were the first to break open the scoring column in the second half, scoring the first goal of the contest in the 55th minute. The Cardinals, who have played exceptional in the second half of games all season, rebounded quickly with Crum's first goal of the day coming in the 59th minute off an assist from
Kaitlyn Cannon. The score remained tied through most of the rest of the half until Crum found herself in prime scoring position again from a pass by
Lauren Fischer. Crum fired it in the net for her second goal of the evening, putting the Cardinals up 2-1 in the 83rd minute. The Cardinals defense held out for the rest of the contest to leave the final at 2-1 in favor of North Central.
Lockard received her eighth win of the season, saving nine shots in the game.
