NAPERVILLE, Ill. (Oct. 2, 2019) - Taking on formerly unbeaten Augustana College on Wednesday evening, the North Central College women's soccer team outlasted their College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) foe, taking the victory by a 1-0 tally.

The Cardinals saw a slow start against the Vikings (6-1-2, 1-1 CCIW), only managing five shots on goal in the opening half without any on goal. The Vikings, on the other hand, were able to control the ball and consistently attack the Cardinals defense, shooting the ball seven times with six on goal. Madison Lockard held strong for the Cardinals though, saving all six through the half.

The second half saw a slight shift though as the Cardinals found more opportunities, cutting through the Vikings defense and getting better shots at the opening goal of the contest. In the 58th minute, that goal came, as Kily Egan found a streaking Kaitlyn Cannon down the right sideline, with Cannon outrunning the Augustana defender and ripping a shot from 25 yards out at a difficult angle. The ball flew over the outstretched hand of the keeper to give the Cardinals the lead and ultimately the win, as the Vikings were not able to best Lockard and the rock-solid Cardinals defense for the remainder of the contest.

Lockard saved nine shots on the evening, bringing her to 66 on the year while improving her record to 6-4-1.

The Cardinals (6-4-1, 2-0 CCIW) have a week off before going into battle with Illinois Wesleyan University on Oct. 9 in Bloomington, Ill. You can check out the live stream for that game HERE and the live stats for the contest HERE.
