Nov. 19, 2019 – Following a first-place finish at the University of Dubuque Invitational over the weekend, North Central College men's wrestling senior Ian Mullen has been honored as the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Wrestler of the Week. The CCIW announced its latest weekly selections on Wednesday.

Mullen was one of two individual winners for North Central at Dubuque on Saturday and posted a perfect 3-0 record. After receiving a first-round bye, Mullen pinned the host's Ridge Vlha two minutes and 41 seconds into their quarterfinal match. Mullen's semifinal matchup pitted him against Nebraska Wesleyan's Eron Haynes, the eighth-place finisher at the 2019 NCAA Division III National Championship and current No. 6-ranked wrestler in the nation. The senior rose to the occasion by winning by decision 14-7, handing Haynes his first loss of the season. Mullen closed out the day with a pin in the championship match (2:32).

With only a few under his belt this season, Mullen has compiled an impressive 11-1 record and a team-high seven pins. This is his second career selection, after earning wrestler of the week honors on Nov. 20, 2018.  

Mullen and North Central travel next to Mequon, Wisconsin on Nov. 23 for the Concordia University Wisconsin Open.
