ROCK ISLAND, Ill. (Nov. 2, 2019) – The No. 1-ranked North Central College men's cross country team easily conquered the first obstacle of its journey to the NCAA Division III National Championship on Saturday by winning the program's 46th-straight College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) title with a perfect score.

As soon as the gun sounded, the Cardinals quickly distanced themselves from the rest of the field, unfazed by the frigid temperatures at Saukie Golf Course. North Central faced little resistance upfront as they sped through the 8,000-meter course, sweeping the first eight places. 

Matt Osmulksi took the individual title, finishing in a time of 25 minutes and 4.7 seconds to extend the program's streak of individual champions to 10-straight years. Behind him, Gabe Pommier (25:13.7) took second, followed by Zach Chapman (25:14.8), Campbell Koch (25:17.2) and Nick Licari (25:18.8) to round out the team's scorers. Matt Boelke (25:19.3), Alex Makrounis (25:19.8) and Kyle Bell (25:38.7) swept sixth through eighth. All of North Central's top-8 runners earned First Team All-CCIW Honors. 

Bjorn Shroda (26:10.9) and Brendon Sebastian (26:17.5) finished 14th and 15th for Second Team All-CCIW Honors.

Wheaton College was North Central's closest challenger with 67 points, followed by Millikin University (105) and Carroll University (108). North Central's performance marked the fourth-consecutive perfect score at the conference championship. 

The Cardinals won more recognition by sweeping the conference's yearly awards. Osmulski was honored as the CCIW Athlete of the Year while Bell was named the  CCIW Freshman of the Year for placing the highest among all conference freshman. The CCIW Al Carius and his assistants the Coaching Staff of the Year.

North Central takes the week off before returning to Lake Breeze Golf Course on Nov. 16 for the NCAA Divison III Midwest Region Championship, set to begin at 11 a.m.
