PLYMOUTH, Wis. (Dec. 14, 2019)Â -- Leaning on its depth while resting some of its top athletes, the tenth-ranked North Central College men's wrestling team maintained its unblemished record with a 33-6 victory over Lakeland University inside the Wehr Center Field House on Saturday.Â
North Central recieved a pair of forfeits–credited to
Enzo Silva (125-pounds) and
Nick Rink (133-lbs) to start the day, putting the Cardinals up 12-0 early.Â
Jaime Suarez kept the ball rolling at 141-lbs where he defeated Lakeland's Tyler Salvino with a major decision (10-2), his first such victory of the season.Â
Chris Jarka put the Muskies on the board with a 10-3 deficion over
Vincent Rink, although the Cardinals still held a comfortable 16-3 lead.
Rafael Roman (165) got North Central back on track by recording his first pin of the season (2:29) and
Aaron Helbok (174) delivered six points for a Muskie forfeit.
Eric Hominac brought home North Central's final points of the match with a tech fall (15-0) in his 197-lbs match against Kyle Reitmeier. Lakeland found three more points in the last match of the day, where Garret Hunt won by decision over Gabriel Fitzpatrick (4-1).Â
The Cardinals also faired well in exhibition matches, which saw
Isaac Martinez win by major decision (10-1) and
Marcello Macellaio (165) win with a pin (1:35).
North Central's victory represents the team's 15th-straight College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) dual meet victory, stretching back to Feb. 2, 2017.
The Cardinals next compete in the Wartburg College Desert Duals on Dec. 22nd. The event will take place at the Flamingo Hotel in Las Vegas with a time to be determined.
