Feb. 23, 2019 – The North Central College men's lacrosse team came out firing on all cylinders for the season opener on Saturday as eight Cardinals scored goals in the team's 16-2 win against Calvin College (1-1) inside Benedetti-Werhli Stadium.

Danny Boyle opened the scoring early less than three minutes into the game and goals from Steven Dale, Noah Parrill, Jared Weaver, and Tanner James helped put the Cardinals into the lead going into the second period, 5-1. Calvin got on the board seconds into the second period with a man-up goal from Austin Bontreger with an assist from Chase Sparling, but North Central responded with a goal from Steven Faux to negate the Knights' momentum.

Calvin soon found success off of another man-up opportunity, this time from Noah Boelens, before going into halftime, but four straight goals from James in the third period and five more goals for the Cardinals thwarted any opportunity for the Knights to come back and North Central added its first win for the season.

James led the Cardinal with five goals and one assist while Weaver added four goals and an assist. Dale had a team-high five ground balls and Brandon Pearl and Sean Tomonari both came away with four caused turnovers. In goal, Dylan Cost recorded five saves and was credited with the win.

As a team, North Central collected 26 ground balls, forced the Knights to make 28 turnovers, had 26 of their 46 shots on goal, and edged out the Knights on 11 faceoffs.

North Central (1-0) returns home on Saturday, March 2 to host Milwaukee School of Engineering at 1 p.m. A link to live in-game coverage can be found HERE.
