Box Score

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. (Mar. 15, 2019) - Pulling ahead for good with a five-run seventh-inning surge, the North Central College baseball team improved to 5-0 on Friday with a 7-4 win over Vassar College (New York) at North Charlotte Regional Park.

Trailing, 4-2, the Cardinals took advantage of extra opportunities early in the seventh as Declan Smyth and Matt Sutherland both reached on errors before Jeremy Quade was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Rob Marinec tied the score at 4-4 with a two-run single, and after a pitching change, John Carmody clubbed a two-run double to give North Central its first lead of the day. Eric Outlaw closed out the seventh-inning scoring with a one-out RBI single.

Marinec and Carmody plated the Cardinals' first two runs of the day in the fifth, driving runners across the plate with a double and a single, respectively. Marinec went 3 for 5 at the plate, while Carmody went 2 for 5.

Luke Lamm drew the starting pitching assignment, allowing three runs on seven hits while striking out 10 in five innings. Jason Shanner pitched the sixth inning and was credited with the win, while Justin Rios struck out seven batters in three scoreless innings to earn a save.

The Cardinals resume their Spring Break schedule on Saturday, taking on Eastern Connecticut State University at 6:30 p.m. Eastern time.
