ORLANDO, Fla. (March 15, 2019) – The North Central College men's tennis team edged out the Ursinus College Bears (2-4) in the opening match of its Florida trip, coming away with a 5-4 win at Sanlando Park on Friday afternoon.
North Central struggled to get momentum in doubles, although
Justin Howes and
Tyler Haizel earned a win at No. 2 doubles, defeating the duo of Connor DeFaber-Schumacher and Simbarase Kanjanda, 8-5.
In singles play, the Cardinals were able to come away with three critical wins, highlighted by
Tyler Bussell's win against DeFaber-Schumacher at No. 2 singles, 6-4, 6-3 which sealed the win for North Central and
Tyler Haizel coming up with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 4.
Lucas Pindak also won at No. 6 singles, defeating Kyle Bookman, 6-1, 6-3.
The Cardinals' (9-2) next match is against St. Lawrence University on Sunday, Mar. 17 at 7:30 p.m. (ET).
