SEWANEE, Tenn. (Mar. 17, 2019) - Looking to rebound from their first loss of the season on Friday, the North Central College women's lacrosse team did just that, controlling their game against Berry College from the very beginning on Sunday, taking the game by a 19-1 final.
The Cardinals consistently controlled the ball and kept the Vikings (1-9) offense at bay, only allowing six shots the entire game. North Central put 10 shots in the back of the net in the first half, with all of them coming before Berry netting a goal.
Madeline McHugh and
Grace Steiner led the Cardinals in the first half with two goals and one assist each.
Camille Seghesio got the start in net for the Cardinals, only allowing one goal with 1:26 left in the first half.Â
The second half was much like the first, with
Jessica Deetjen starting the scoring for the Cardinals. Steiner added two more goals to her total in the second half to bring her game-leading total to four.
Elizabeth Wagner played in goal for North Central for the whole second half, playing a flawless 30 minutes, saving all three shots that went her way.
With Steiner leading the way with four goals, McHugh added three, while
Berit Vandenbroucke, Deetjen, and
Mynk Richardson-Clerk added two each. Six more Cardinals also added to the scoring with one goal a piece.
Annabelle Steiner and
Christina Truver both added seven ground balls on the defensive end of the field, while
Sydney Manning caused five turnovers.
As a team, the Cardinals caused 18 turnovers and only gave up six shots. They also got off 53 shot attempts, which ranks third in a single game by a team in program history.
The Cardinals (4-1) play on Tuesday, March 19, this time against Birmingham-Southern College with play starting at 6 pm.
