Mar. 19, 2019 - A strong start to the North Central College baseball team's Spring Break schedule has netted Cardinal junior outfielder
Colin Weilbacher the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Hitter of the Week honor for Mar. 11-17. The CCIW announced its weekly awards on Tuesday.
Weilbacher claimed the first such award of his collegiate career after going 8 for 17 from the plate (a .471 batting average) in the Cardinals' first four games of the Snowbird Classic in Port Charlotte, Florida. He totaled five runs batted in, four runs scored and two doubles in helping lead North Central to a 3-1 record, achieving multiple hits in three of the four games. Weilbacher opened the trip with a 3 for 4 effort in a 12-2 win over SUNY Canton, which included three runs scored and two RBI, and went 2 for 4 in a 5-3 win over Eastern Connecticut State University and a 3-2 loss to then-No. 22-ranked Babson College (Massachusetts).
Through seven games this season, Weilbacher leads the Cardinals with a .417 batting average. North Central (6-1) concludes its stay in Florida with two games against the No. 3-ranked College of Wooster on Wednesday, with the opener set to begin at 9:00 a.m. Eastern time.
