NAPERVILLE, Ill. (March 2, 2019) - The North Central College women's lacrosse team scored 11 goals in the second half to pull away from the Hope College Flying Dutch on Saturday, en route to a 16-9 finish.
The win marked their 12th home victory in a row dating back April of 2017. Since then, the Cardinals have outscored their opponents at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium by a 217-108 margin.
Against Hope College (1-1) on Saturday, the Cardinals scored three early goals by
Madeline McHugh,
Christina Truver, and
Jessica Deetjen before Hope scored their first goal with 23:42 left in the first half. McHugh added another goal to make the score 4-1 with 11:00 left in the first half. The first half was concluded with two Dutch goals followed by
Annabelle Steiner widening the lead to 5-3.
The second half was dominated by the Cardinals, netting 11 goals throughout the period. The half was highlighted by Truver scoring three times, Deetjen adding four, and
Reilly Pfeiffer adding two more.
Berit Vandenbroucke added one to the score column as well, with Steiner finding the back of the net for her second goal of the game as well.Â
The Cardinals split time in goal with
Camille Seghesio getting the first half and
Abigail Leers taking the second half of play. Seghesio only gave up three goals in the 30 minutes of game time and also received the victory. Leers saved one shot in the second half after seeing many of the shots her way becoming wide or high of net.
The Cardinals (2-0) are back at home to try to make it 13-straight home wins next Saturday, March 2 against Kalamazoo College at 1 pm. You can check out the live stats
