NAPERVILLE, Ill. (Mar. 9, 2019) - Despite a constant downpour causing puddles to form on the field, the North Central College women's lacrosse team's offense came alive in the second half in their game on Saturday afternoon, beating the Kalamazoo College Hornets by a 21-13 score.
The game was controlled by the Cardinals after a quick two scores by the Hornets (1-2), putting in four shots to take the 4-2 lead. They scored five more in the half to go up 9-6 at the half. In the second half, North Central came out firing and connecting, scoring 12 second half goals to take the 21-13 final in their favor.
The Cardinals were paced by a balanced attack on offense, with eight players putting shots into the back of the net.
Jessica Deetjen led the way with six goals, while
Christina Truver was right behind her with four and
Madeline McHugh and
Grace Steiner both adding three as well. The other three scorers for the Cardinals were
Mynk Richardson-Clerk with two and
Reilly Pfeiffer,
Berit Vandenbroucke, and
Annabelle Steiner all with one.
On the defensive side of the field, Truver picked up five ground balls for the Cardinals and also got eight draw controls, leading the team in both categories.
Camille Seghesio got the start in goal for the Cardinals, with
Abigail Widd replacing her 20 minutes into the first half. Widd saved five shots while giving up eight goals, and Seghesio is credited with the win while stopping two shots and allowing five goals.
The Cardinals extended their streak of consecutive home wins, now up to 12 straight defenses of their home turf.
North Central (3-0) is on the road for the first time this season on March 15, taking on Sewanee University in Sewanee, Tennessee. Click
