AURORA, Ill. (Mar. 2, 2019) – Opening the spring season with a tough task in NCAA Division I foe Eastern Illinois University, the North Central College women's tennis team dropped a 7-0 decision on Saturday afternoon inside Vaughan Tennis Center.
Playing by Division I rules with a combined one point scored for doubles play, the Panthers (7-4) opened with 6-1 and 6-0 wins at No. 2 and No. 3, respectively to score the doubles point.
In singles play, Eastern Illinois scored three-straight 6-0, 6-0 wins at No. 4, No. 1 and No. 2 to seal the match win. At No. 3,
Alaina Kanthaphixay fought Abby Carpenter to a tight opening set, eventually falling 7-5 before dropping the second set 6-2.
North Central (8-4) begins their annual spring trip on Friday, Mar. 15, taking on Ursinus College (Pennsylvania) at Sanlando Park in Orlando, Fla. with matches slated to begin at 12:30 p.m. (ET).
