LISLE, Ill. (Mar. 27, 2019) - Riding a four-game winning streak into the contest, the North Central College women's lacrosse team flew past Benedictine University to make it five straight victories on Wednesday, taking the game by a 17-6 score.
The Eagles (0-8) kept the game close early after three quick Cardinal goals, scoring two of their own to pull within one. The Cardinals then took over after a timeout, regouping and going on a 6-0 run to finish off the half. The second half was much of the same, with North Central outscoring Benedictine by an 8-4 margin in the half to make the final 17-6.
Annabelle Steiner was the leader of the offense this game, scoring a team-high four goals.
Jessica Deetjen was second with three goals, while
Christina Truver,
Grace Steiner, and
Reilly Pfeiffer all added two.
Madeline McHugh assisted on three goals, also while adding a goal of her own.
Annabelle Steiner and Truver also tied for the team lead in ground balls, both picking up eight.
Additionally, Truver also caused six turnovers, which is now tied for fifth on the all-time single game record board in the category. The record was set by Gina Fisher back in 2016, when she caused nine turnovers against Elmhurst College.
Camille Seghesio recorded the win in goal for the Cardinals to make her 7-1 on the season. She saved five shots while giving up all six of Benedictine's goals.
The Cardinals (8-1) are away again to try and make it six wins in a row on Saturday, traveling to Dubuque to take on the Spartans in their first College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin match up of the season.
