NAPERVILLE, ILL. (Apr. 10, 2019) - Despite the wind chill dropping to 32 degrees during the contest, the North Central College women's lacrosse team overcame the cold and the Carthage College Lady Reds on their way to a 13-9 victory on Wednesday evening.

Coming off their first loss in seven games on April 6, the Cardinals jumped out to a 6-2 lead over the Lady Reds (4-6, 1-1 CCIW) at the end of the first half, with Jessica Deetjen scoring thrice and Grace Steiner also adding two goals.

The Lady Reds came out of the break firing though, coming back to within three goals with a little over 17 minutes remaining in regulation. A Cardinal timeout helped them regroup though and push the lead to 13-6 on four unanswered goals. Carthage tried to pull closer over the final seven minutes but were unable to complete a comeback with the final score ending up being 13-9 in favor of North Central.

Deetjen finished the game with five goals, while Annabelle Steiner added three, Christina Truver and Grace Steiner added two, and Berit Vandenbroucke had one. Truver also had three assists while Madeline McHugh had two to push her total to a team-leading 17 on the season. Truver also picked up 12 ground balls in the contest, which is tied for second on the program's all-time single game record board for the category. Additionally, the junior also grabbed nine draws and caused four turnovers as well.

In goal for the Cardinals was Camille Seghesio, who improved her record on the season to 10-2 while saving 10 shots and giving up all nine goals.

The Cardinals (11-2, 2-1 CCIW) take a week off of competition before battling the Elmhurst College Blue Jays on April 17. Click HERE for live stats.
