HARTLAND, Wis. (Apr. 13, 2019) – Winners of five of the last six, the North Central College men's tennis team improved to 15-4 overall this season after defeating Carroll University, 6-3 on Saturday, the most wins for a Cardinal team in over a decade.
Also improving to 3-1 in College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) play with the win, the team eclipsed the 14-win 2008-09 season as a clean sweep of doubles play gave the Cardinals an early 3-0 advantage.
Justin Howes and
Lucas Pindak recorded the first victory of the afternoon inside Lake Country Racquet Club, cruising past Nick Bissegger and Jordan Nowell, 8-1 at the No. 3 position.
Victor Krueger and
Andy Hinch were the next to finish at No. 1, taking down Chayce Roecker and Joseph Harrison, 8-4, while
Tyler Bussell and
Tyler Haizel were victorious by an identical 8-4 score over Ian Foster and Mitchel Gjerseth at No. 2.
Carrying the 3-0 lead into singles play, Haizel inched the Cardinals even closer to the match win with a 6-2, 6-0 drubbing of Foster at the No. 3 spot, before the Pioneers (2-14, 0-5 CCIW) got on the board with a win at No. 1.
For the second-straight day, Hinch was the one to seal the match win for North Central, losing just one game en route to a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Ryan Strupp at the No. 5 position. Just for good measure, Pindak rolled Bissegger at the No. 6 spot, 6-1, 6-0.
North Central returns to the court on Wednesday, Apr. 17, traveling to Elmhurst College with matches at Brune Tennis Courts scheduled for 3 p.m.
