ELMHURST, Ill. (Apr. 17, 2019) – Continuing to roll in College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) play, the North Central College men's tennis team cruised to a 9-0 shutout win over Elmhurst College on Wednesday, improving to 4-1 in conference action.
Beginning the day with doubles play,
Justin Howes and
Lucas Pindak teamed up to shut out Chris Wallace and Tavious Imperial, 8-0 at the No. 3 position to get the Cardinals on the board. At No. 1, the duo of
Victor Krueger and
Andy Hinch were no match for David Demoll and Shawn Sabaricos, 8-2, while
Tyler Bussell and
Tyler Haizel secured the clean sweep of doubles play with a 8-5 victory over David O'Connell and Lance Maharry at No. 2.
North Central (16-4, 4-1 CCIW) carried that momentum into singles play, winning all six matches in straight sets as Hinch was the first to finish at the No. 4 spot with a 6-2, 6-0 defeat of Maharry.
Holding a 4-0 lead in the match, Pindak was able to clinch the match win for the Cardinals with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Imperial at the No. 6 position, before Krueger was victorious by an identical 6-1, 6-1 score over Demoll at No. 1. Howes then took down Wallace in straight 6-3 sets at No. 5, while Haizel defeated O'Connell, 6-4, 6-2 at No. 3 and Bussell fought out a tough 7-5 win in the opener before taking care of Sabaricos with a 6-3 second-set victory.
Currently tied with Millikin University for third-place in the conference standings, the Cardinals host the Big Blue in a huge CCIW dual on Friday, Apr. 19 with matches scheduled for 1 p.m. at Nike Park.
